We only provide a visual inspection and cannot dismantle any parts. In many situations the experienced engineers will be able to tell you of any problems from the visual inspection, the sound of the engine and the road test. If dismantling is required for an Engineer's Report this will need to be carried out by your agent prior to the inspection.

A 'parallel import' refers to right-hand drive vehicles purchased from abroad, built to EU type Approval and therefore compatible with UK specification.

The vehicle is more than 15yrs old, do you inspect it?

No.

How long does it take to arrange an inspection?

We will call the vendor as soon as possible to arrange a time that is mutually convenient. Most inspections are carried out within 3 working days, subject to the vendor and vehicles availability. Some areas of Devon & Cornwall and the North of Scotland can take longer.

How long does the inspection take?

This depends on the inspection type, the vehicle concerned, condition, and the location. Inspections can take anything from 1 to 3 hours.

How long is the road test?

Dependent on location, traffic levels, fuel level and engineer's judgment, however we try to cover 5 miles on the Peace of Mind and Van Inspection and 10 miles on a Comprehensive and Motorhome Inspection.

Why must I have the Vehicle Registration Number to proceed?

Part of the service is a vehicle document check that provides a report into the history of the car ensuring that it has not previously been classed as a write off or stolen etc. This can only be done with the provision of the VRN.

Why should I have a Car Data check?

To confirm the vehicle history and identifies if the vehicle is stolen or has been involved in an accident where the Insurance company classed the vehicle as a write off and so that the engineer can confirm details on the vehicle. For a full certificated Data Check click here.

Do you have to have the car data check carried out?

No, but it is advisable.

Do I have to be present at the inspection?

No.

Do engineers work out of hours?

No, inspections are carried out during the day as they cannot work in the dark/poor lighting .

What do I need to advise the seller before I book an inspection?

Inform the seller that you are arranging an inspection and we require the following:

  • The vehicle has a current MOT certificate (if applicable)
  • Their permission to do a road test and sufficient fuel to do so
  • Located off the highway on a hard level surface

Can I contact the engineer?

Yes. You will be emailed the engineer's contact details with confirmation of the inspection being assigned to him/her.

Do I get a verbal report?

Yes. However this will be late in the day or early evening after the engineer has completed his daily inspection workload and written the report. This is normally between 5-8pm.

How do I get my written report?

By email if you have an email address or by post if you don't. Reports are sent as soon as practically possible within 24hours after the inspection.

What if a problem arises after the inspection has been done?
